Keep Kankakee Alerts Current
Save a dated note of the agency and status whenever an alert matters. Custody data shifts fast. A saved message only shows what was reported at that moment. A call to the facility confirms current status, and the court docket holds the legal record an automated notice cannot supply. Update your registration when contact details change. Cancel it through the live VINELink controls too.
Kankakee VINELink Coverage
The Illinois Attorney General's VINE information lays out a free, secure, confidential notification system for victims. Illinois VINE reports custody and criminal-case status, and it links to county jail booking systems, the Illinois Department of Corrections, the Department of Human Services, and circuit court clerks. Anyone can search and register through VINELink.
That state page publishes no county-by-county feed table. So it backs the Illinois service without promising that every Jerome Combs Detention Center event shows up. Open the live state and county selector. Pick Illinois, then Kankakee County if it appears. A blank result is ambiguous. It could mean no match, a spelling difference, release, transfer, delay, or plain lack of coverage. A blank result never proves no arrest occurred.
Illinois describes ties to jail, corrections, human-services, and court systems. Those links let one service report several kinds of status. Agencies do not all move at the same speed. Read the agency and facility in a result first. Treat it as a Kankakee County custody update only after that check.
Search Kankakee Arrests on VINELink
VINELink runs on JavaScript, and its controls can shift. Use the labels on the live screen. An old directory or saved instruction sheet may mislead you. The search covers one person, so narrow it enough to avoid a false match on a Kankakee arrest.
- Open VINELink and select Illinois.
- Select Kankakee County when the current interface offers it. Note any participation or coverage message.
- Enter the person’s full name. Add a permitted identification or booking number when known.
- Use a date of birth or other allowed narrowing field if the interface displays one.
- Compare the returned custody agency, facility, identifier, and status. A name alone is not identity proof.
- For a recent county arrest, compare the result with the Sheriff’s official booking portal.
The live VINELink search screen provides the current state and custody-system selection process.
The official VINELink lookup screen shows search controls and no list of people.
Kankakee VINELink Result Fields
A VINE result is a notification-system record. It reports a single event from a participating source. It is not the Sheriff's full booking record, a mugshot gallery, or the Circuit Clerk's final disposition.
| Result item | How to read it |
|---|---|
| Name and identifier | Use both to distinguish people with similar names. |
| Custody status | The latest status reported to VINE, which may lag the source. |
| Agency or facility | The reporting custody location, not proof of every prior booking. |
| Case status | A reported court event where that participating interface supplies it. |
| Release or transfer event | A change that may trigger a registered alert. |
| Photograph | Not the purpose of VINE and not guaranteed. |
“In custody” tells you where the person is held right now. Kankakee County readers often confuse it with “booked.” Booking simply records the arrest and intake into the jail. A charge, by contrast, means the state has filed a criminal count, while a conviction comes only after a court enters judgment. Each label answers a different question, so treat them as separate steps rather than synonyms. For the case record and its disposition, search the Circuit Clerk. The clerk's file holds the recorded court outcome, which VINE does not provide. VINE supports timely awareness of custody changes in Kankakee County, though it never replaces official court notice.
Register for Illinois VINE Alerts
The Attorney General lists several alert channels: register for custody and court-status changes by email, text, telephone, or the VINE mobile app. Registration is just an alert subscription. It is not a request for an arrest report, booking record, or photograph.
- Open the matching person or case record in VINELink.
- Choose the registration or notification option shown in the live interface.
- Select an offered delivery channel: email, text, telephone, or mobile app.
- Enter the required contact details and create the PIN or other security step requested on screen.
- Confirm the subscription and keep the registration details in a secure place.
- Use the current interface to update or cancel notifications when they are no longer needed.
A PIN or security step guards the subscription. It is not a booking identifier. Follow the fields in the live registration flow, since the service changes its controls. If an alert arrives, save its date, time, agency, and stated event, then verify an urgent release or transfer with the facility. The VINELink registration screen shows the current enrollment flow.
This registration view belongs to the alert service alone. It does not prove Kankakee County participation for any person.
Illinois VINE Contact Channels
The statewide service offers more than a web search. The Illinois VINE hotline is 1-866-5-NOTIFY, or 1-866-566-8439. Relay service runs through 711. An immediate danger stays a 911 matter. Nobody should approach a person because of a database alert. The official Illinois VINE page describes the search and notification channels.
The statewide description confirms phone, email, text, and app options. County feed status stays with the live service. An alert can report a release, a transfer, or a case-status change VINE received. It cannot promise advance notice of every movement. So keep other safety plans and official contacts current after registration.
Confirm Fresh Kankakee Bookings
VINELink can lag behind a fresh booking in Kankakee County. When someone was just arrested, go straight to the Kankakee 24 Hour Arrests page and the official Tyler jail inquiry. Run the booking date both ways, with the current-custody filter on and then off. Urgent? Call the Kankakee County Sheriff's Corrections Division at 815-802-7200.
Each system answers a different question. Tyler tracks county bookings and who is in custody. VINELink sends alerts. The court portal carries the docket, and the Illinois Department of Corrections search covers people serving state sentences or on parole. A transfer between layers can make the same name vanish from one search and surface in another.
- Release
- A departure from custody, subject to any other holds or terms.
- Transfer
- A move between facilities or custody authorities.
- Notification
- An alert based on a status event supplied to VINE.
- PIN
- A security code used to manage some alert registrations.
VINELink Limits Beyond Kankakee
Illinois VINE is not a universal federal locator. It will not find someone in federal custody. Federal prison records live in the Bureau of Prisons locator. Immigration detention runs through the ICE Online Detainee Locator System. A separate federal DHS VINE service also exists, so do not confuse it with Kankakee County or Illinois jail coverage.
VINELink does not decide the court outcome. It may show a case-status event when a court supplies one. The Kankakee County Circuit Clerk's portal stays official for docket and hearing details. Booking photos and paper records sit with the Sheriff, police, IDOC, or the court that holds them.
A blank screen proves little. Check the spelling and identifiers first. Confirm the state and county. A misspelled name or wrong jurisdiction will sink the search, so try the custody layer that fits and call the arresting agency before assuming anything.
Old state custody has its own limit. IDOC's search covers current inmates and parolees. Completed sentences route to a separate IDOC records search, not VINE or JCDC.
Note: VINELink alerts are an added safeguard, not a guarantee; confirm important custody changes with the reporting agency.
